Helen & Dicks Big Adventure

 The weather was still a bit wet but much of the UK was getting more rain.  We got out and about a did some good walks. We have realised that we don't need to walk massive distances or go up great heights anymore, sticking more to lower levels and a max of around 5 miles. A walk around Tarn Hows An old favourite, and easy walk around Buttermere                         and a fantastic walk in Langdale Valley just as the mist was coming in. Luckily we got to the Sticklebarn pub just in time. Lovely pub for a beer or a hot drink after a walk in the fells & free dog biscuits 😉The pub is the only pub owned by the National Trust and is well worth a visit.  Tuesday 30 November, just taken the awning down ready for moving day tomorrow.  Still misty but the awning was more or less dry.  Now off to walk the dogs.  Tuesday 15 November, after a nice easy journey we arrive at the Windermere Camping & Caravanning Club site.  The site is situated in the countryside between Kendal & Windermere. It's quite a big campsite but really pretty and well set out. We were given a pitch with a great view of the fells.  This is more like it after the urban sprawl surrounding Conkers.  We were both surprised by how busy the campsite and the area is.  Winter camping is clearly popular in these parts, there are even hardy souls in tents. Oh and there's a pub on site😁 So we spent the next week exploring the area with plenty of walks and even a trip to the beach.  The walk from the Campsite The campsite is home to a large population of rabbits which spend their time winding the dogs up.   10 November & the next stop was the Camping & Caravanning Club site at Conkers in the National Forest. We were there for 5 nights.  The national forest is essentially old industrial land from mining and clay works which have been put back to nature. It was a nice campsite but a little too near to urbanisation for me. We found a nice walk by a lake which was good for dog walking. It's always good to find a place where the dogs can have a safe run off the lead. The roads locally were very busy so we didn't venture far.  We also found our way to the local canal lock. Tuesday 15 November and we off again, to Windermere in the Lake District 😃

 Monday 7 November , all packed up and in touring trim we set off from West Runton.  First stop Clumber Park Caravan & Motorhome Club site in Nottinghamshire.  The road into the site has to be the grandest entrance to a campsite, through a grand arch and then along a tree lined drive.  The site is situated in Clumber park estate now owned by the National Trust.  The campsite is surrounded by woodland and is very neat and tidy.  The two facilities blocks are immaculate and had under floor heating which made Helen very happy.  The dogs were particularly excited by the large number of squirrels inhabiting the site.  Maybe the underfloor heating helped keep their nuts warm😂.  Wednesday we had a walk from the campsite through the forest to the site of the old hall and the lovely gardens.
