Windermere and the Lake District
Tuesday 15 November, after a nice easy journey we arrive at the Windermere Camping & Caravanning Club site. The site is situated in the countryside between Kendal & Windermere. It's quite a big campsite but really pretty and well set out. We were given a pitch with a great view of the fells.
This is more like it after the urban sprawl surrounding Conkers.
We were both surprised by how busy the campsite and the area is. Winter camping is clearly popular in these parts, there are even hardy souls in tents. Oh and there's a pub on site😁
So we spent the next week exploring the area with plenty of walks and even a trip to the beach.
The walk from the Campsite
The campsite is home to a large population of rabbits which spend their time winding the dogs up. Dick - whilst I was taking the dogs out at night, got the lead trapped around my ring finger just as the dogs set off after a bunny. I now have a badly sprained or broken finger😢
The site is not far from lake Windermere & a walk from Bowness-on-Windermere to Brant Fell.
Monday 21 and a drive over the Kirkstone pass and a walk from Glenridding along the beck & back, with views of a snow capped Helvellyn. The weather turned on us on the way back.
The next day we had a nice walk around Rydal Water
Wednesday 23 we were due to move campsites to Braithwaite village in the Northern Lakes but for a number of reasons we decided to stay put for another 8 nights, mainly we couldn't be bothered to move😀
