Pretty villages, speeding traffic & that bloody farm shop

Image
30 April saw us leave Devon and start working our way towards our North Norfolk which would be our home for the summer.  We had a 3 night stop at the Caming and Caravaning Club site at Chipping Norton.  The sight is a lovely little spot but we forgot it was a bank holiday weekend.  We also hadn't realised that a certain Jeremy Clarkson has his farm shop right next door to the campsite entrance.  We found cars double parked all up the lane making it difficult to get in and out of the site. Also farm shop customers litter the area making the area a bit of a mess.   The road next to the site was also very busy with speeding traffic making taking the dogs for a walk difficult. Once through the farm shop litter and across the road however you could walk down a lovely track into wonderful blue bell covered countryside past Ian Fleming's (James Bond) family home.

High cliffs & a very big beach

25 April & it was off to North Devon and the Camping & Caranvaning Club site at Umbleigh. A lovely small site and well placed to see the sights of North Devon. We found a massive beach, Saunton Sands, again using thebeachguide.co.uk.  Easy parking. toilets and a cafe. There is also a surf shop and surf schools for the budding surf dude.  Above you can see Helen's approach to putting up the awning😁 We also had a lovely coast walk around Clovelly. The walk down through the village to the pub is not for the faint hearted.  We cheated and took the Landrover taxi back up the hill 😎 Saturday 30 April we were off again, this time starting to head back up country.

Coast Path & Pasties

View from the coast path at the Lizard 11 April saw us travel down to Veryan Camping & Caravan Club site on the South Coast of Cornwall. Everyone was warning us about a fuel shortage but we had no issues (apart from the price!).  We stayed based at Veryan over Easter until 25 April. It's a lovely camp site and Ady, Steph, Brian & Clare made us feel very welcome and gave us some great advice on working on campsites.   Veryan is a great base to explore Cornwall, on the South coast but only a short hope to the North Coast.   Veryan is also close to the Lost Gardens of Heligan, expensive but well worth a visit and dogs allowed and well catered for🐕 We did some great walks and found some nice beaches. Near Veryan we highly recommend Carne & Pendower beaches (they join at low tide). The massive and dog friendly Watergate bay is well worth the short drive to the North Coast (top beach picture above). We used the beach guide web site which is really ...
